Memories

My best school memories this year was the first day of school, meeting new people, the Knight at the Museum and my 20% Project. One of my best memories of school is the first day of school, I liked this memory because it was a new step for me going into middle school. I also like this memory because I got to meet my new teachers. Another great memory of this school year was meeting new classmates. I like this school memory because I knew nobody there and I was able to make some friends. My third memory was the Knight at the Museum because I worked hard on that project and I got to see my classmates projects. My last memory is my 20% project because I enjoyed working on this project and it was something I wanted to learn.

20% Project Week Six

For my 20% Project I chose American Sign Language (ASL). For week six I worked on signing and speaking what I will be presenting to my audience on May 15th. I will be presenting in front of my class the day after project night. I had some adjustments this week because when we are presenting in class I had to talk about why I chose this subject, our struggles, goals and adjustments for all the six weeks we worked on this project. For week six I had some struggled with signing the word “project.” Accomplishments, for week six I accomplished my presentation and got started with my trifold. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I will be working and planning on finishing my trifold. On Tuesday or Wednesday I plan on preparing to speak in front of the audience by presenting in front of a small group of students in my class.

Queen Mom

Dear Mom,

Thank you of all you do for me. You cook, drive me to school, practice and make sure I have clean clothes. You are special to me because you go the extra mile to make me happy. My favorite memory of my mom is going to the Grand Canyon with her. This is my favorite memory because we seen the beautiful sunset. My mom is an important person in my life because every day she gives my brother and I advice. She tells us do well in school, be kind, treat others how you want to be treated and to make good decisions. Thank you mom.

20% Project Week Five

For my 20% Protect I chose American Sign Language (ASL) for week five I worked on signing my sentences that I will be presenting in front of my audience on May 15th, I also learned how to sign from one to one hundred, a thousand, a million, and a billion. I learned how to sign multiple sports like baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, hockey, cross country, ice skating and more. For week five my struggles were signing my sentences as well as some of the numbers that I learned. So next week I will have to make an adjustment, instead of working on my trifold I will have to work on my presentation and remember it. Next week I will be working on my presentation, remembering my presentation and working on my trifold. I plan on doing a lot of repetition in front of my family to help me memorize my presentation.

Rad Reading- April

In the month of April I read Educated by Tara Westover. Educated is an autobiography about a woman named Tara that lives on a peaceful hill called Buck’s Peak. Tara doesn’t have a birth certificate because her and her family live off the grid. Since she lives off the grid she has to work with her dad on the house and in the junkyard to earn money. During childhood she had to teach herself how to read, write and do math because her dad, Gene Westover did not believe in the government. Even though Tara was not educated she was still able to go to BYU and the University of Cambridge.

I really enjoyed this book because Tara described the hill, the junk yard, the schools that she went to and all the struggles that she went through. When I was reading this book Tara made me feel like I was there at all of her struggles in her life and in the house hiding from the government. Another reason why I liked this book is because Tara did a great job describing her childhood and present life. I felt like I was right next to Tara as I read each chapter.

My favorite character in the book was Tara because she is determined. I think Tara is determined because at a young age she educated herself and was able to go to a university. She began as a young girl, the youngest of seven, but when her brother’s got older they moved and her dad didn’t have a crew to help him on the house. Tara had a good connection with her older brother Tyler, but when he got older he went off to college and that made Tara sad, but it also made Tara want to go to college like her brother. Tara made a hear dream a reality and attended a good college.

My favorite quote from the book is on page #308 “Well Tara, this is it. This is crazy.” I like this quote because she had to go through all of her challenges, this quote also shows that Tara is determined on her goals. Another quote that I liked is on page #232 “The University of Cambridge wrote to Dr. Kerry, rejecting my application.” I liked this quote because it shows that Tara doesn’t quit because she still got into the university after she was rejected.

20% Project Week Four

For my 20% Project I chose American Sign Language (ASL) for week four I worked on learning numbers, some of the colors and some common phrases in American Sign Language. In week four I had some struggles when I was signing the common phrases, they were a little hard to sign but I was able to get some of them down. I learned to sign “Can you please sign that again,” “Sorry I didn’t understand,” “I need to go home,” “Can I have the book please,” “I need water,” I also learned to sign 1 to 11 and some colors. My accomplishments this week were learning some new sentences, learning the numbers 1 to 11 and learning some colors. For week five I plan on learning how to sign my five sentences so I can be successful presenting my sentences on May 15th. I also want to ask my parents to take me a signing event at a Starbucks.

20% Project Week Three

For my 20% Project I chose American Sign Language (ASL). For week three I worked on finishing the five sentences that I will be presenting in front of my audience on May 15th. This week, I learned the following sentences “I’m learning ASL,” “How was your day,” “Do you want to go home,” “Do you like” and a lot more. In week three, I struggled with some of the sentences, but I was able to sign three of my five sentences correctly after 30 minutes of practice. Accomplishments, I completed all of my five sentences that I will be presenting to my audience on May 15th. I was able to completely sign three of the five questions. I also learned some new words to sign. Next week, I will be working on signing my entire five sentences. I hope to be able to correctly sign all five of my questions. I also plan on learning a few more words.

The Best Room

My favorite room in the house is the living room. I think the living room is the best room in the house because of three reasons. The first reason why I like spending time in the living room is because I can go there to sleep, rest and relax on the couch. Secondly, I like watching sports on the T.V and learning how to get better. My most favorite reason is spending time with my family talking about our day.

20% Project Week Two

In week two of learning American Sign Language (ASL) I continued to practice the alphabet which I learned last week. I did not struggle when I signed the alphabet this week which I was happy about. I also started to write some basic questions and responses like “How are you,” “My name is,” “What is your name,” “Nice to meet you,” “Do you like ice cream” and a lot more. I plan on writing five sentences which I will be signing in front of my audience on May 15th, but so far I have only completed three. I should have all five of my sentences completed by Friday, April 19th. Accomplishments, I have learned how to sign the alphabet without any problems. I have three of my five sentences completed. My goals for next week are to learn how to sign one or two of my sentences and learn a new word.

Oklahoma’s

Sandoval! Gonzalez! Our football coach called us over to go head to head against each other. I ran to the cone while the coach tossed me the ball. I saw Sandoval’s teeth clenching on his mouth guard, my teeth were clenching on my mouth guard. Our teammates were cheering us on. I was nervous and in Sandoval’s eyes I saw he was also nervous. Our coach said, “Ready, Set, Hike” I ran around the other cone while I ran as fast as I can, I met Sandoval in the middle of the two lanes of cones. I dropped my shoulder while I hit Sandoval. I thought he would knock the football out of my hands and put me on my back, it was him on the ground and me running until my coach said “Touchdown!” I was excited because I won in one on one Oklahoma’s.
